About the artist
Suzanne van Soest followed a fashion course at the Royal Art Academy. The interest to work on flat surfaces came in the screen printing studio, where she studied printing in textiles. Van Soest made a detour after her fashion education because she felt that she needed an intellectual theoretical framework and did a BA in Cultural Studies at UVA. After that she worked as a journalist for the AD / Haagsche Courant. Until she came in contact with her old love; the screen printer for which she had worked at the academy, he needed an assistant and introduced Suzanne to art production. Now she makes canvas painting with oil next to her giant screen prints. They are colourful and figurative, often with human figures. Her images are populated with theatrical and abstracted figures and objects that all look past each other. They give expression to the existential emptiness of human existence.
